The weight/wait

Monarch Mountain 3/16/21 – Top of Panorama Lift

Yesterday I took off to Monarch Mountain (near Salida) for a solo ski day. As I rode up the old 2 seater lifts with no safety bar, I was fascinated with the way some of the trees looked with such heavy snow weighing down their branches, causing them to bend so as not to break.

As I examined the trees, I felt very connected to them. And it was then that I realized: I am that tree being weighed down by the weather. I am bending to accommodate the weight of circumstances beyond my control. I am carrying this heavy load because I have no other choice right now. And just like the trees, I am merely waiting for the weight of all the snow to melt away when the weather changes.

While the trees look unspeakably beautiful covered in snow, I am reminded that they cannot carry that weight indefinitely. Their life cycle depends on the changing of seasons to bring them the varying conditions they need to thrive. Not just survive.

I too depend on the changing of seasons to sustain me. I require seasons with sunshine, warmth, ease and growth. But that season is not now. Right now I stand tall like a pine tree, carrying the weight of the weather on my branches. I simply wait for the changing of seasons and for the weight on my branches to melt away & free me from such heaviness.
