The Magic White Board

Sometime in July of 2020 (aka, the year of the virus), Ryan and I ordered a huge dry erase board to hang in our basement so that we would have a designated space to write out our goals together. The White Board we got is 5′ x 3 ‘ and it was around $150 from Amazon.

You can imagine how upset I was when this HUGE dry erase board was delivered to us with a big hole in the corner of the front of the board. But not wanting to repackage it and return it, or throw it out and be wasteful, we simply decided to cover the hole with a printed picture of our dream home – a beautiful log cabin with a wrap around porch nestled in the trees perfectly positioned between adventure and peace. Then I reached out to Amazon about this and sent some pictures of the damage to ask if they would be willing to offer us a discount for accepting a quite damaged product. Not only did they offer us a 50% refund on the white board but they thanked me for keeping it and for not being wasteful. I didn’t think much of this at the time – but now it seems to me that this one simple choice has brought us incredible fortune in the form of goal crushing magic!

Sondra, what? Magic? What the hell are you talking about?

Well, within the first month of writing our top 10 goals to accomplish in the next 6 months, we immediately checked off the top 3. What??? Did the universe sprinkle some fairy dust on that white board? How are we crushing goals during a global pandemic after 2 job furloughs with compromised mental health, severe compassion fatigue and little to no energy to do much more than exist?

After giving this a lot of thought, my answer is this: CLARITY.

We are clear on what it is we want to do next, what we want/need to pay off, and where any extra dollars should be spent. Which is precisely how we got crystal clear on the fact that we were ready to take the plunge on creating a home away from home by putting a deposit down on a Sprinter van!

Now we are just working on the financing and figuring out the best way to get this baby home to Colorado from Maryland. But wow, a beautiful blank canvas to make this whatever we want it to be for us!

Here is our primary inspiration for what we want the interior to look like after we build it out…

#Vanspo

I can’t even begin to tell you how excited I am! I feel such a deep sense of hope and excitement for the future and to be honest, I forgot what that felt like. This past year has been filled with so much anger, sadness, grief, fear and frustration. I completely lost touch with hope, excitement and joy. And JOY is one of my top 5 core values. So it feels good to get reacquainted with joy – especially right now, in the face of so much uncertainty.

Here are some more fun #vanspo pics so you can get excited with me!

There is a goal development process I learned in OT school called “The Reverse Goaling Process” that I used with some of my patients at the Stone Institute of Psychiatry, while I was there for my level 2 fieldwork many moons ago. And this is the exact same process that Ryan and I are now using with our magic white board. ✨✨✨ If you want to learn more about this, or book a session with me coaching you through this process then book your FREE 45-minute clarity call here: https://calendly.com/elevatedlivingcoaching/free-clarity-call-45-minutes (this is for NEW coaching clients only). The world is seemingly going to hell in a hand basket so let’s stop wasting time living in crippling fear and anxiety. Let’s create lives that inspire us, ground us and make us stoked to be alive! No matter what the news says.

And as Michael J. Fox said in his new book (very good by the way), “There is no time like the future.”

Goal on, friends!

Xo,

Sondra
